Louth Leader: “Have your say on plans to prevent coastal flooding”

PUBLIC opinion is being sought on plans to improve the sea defences to prevent future coastal flooding.
The Shoreline Management Plan will set the framework for managing coastal flood and erosion defences and focus on how we protect our homes, businesses and farmland.

ELDC’s portfolio holder for planning, Coun Neil Cooper, explained: “The Shoreline Management Plan sets out area by area how the East Lindsey coast will be affected by sea level rise and coastal flooding and provides a policy framework for how this should be dealt with.

“It also considers the effect of climate change on our coast over the coming years.”

The SMP covers the area from the East Riding of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire and will consider the implications of coastal flooding and erosion over the next 20, 50 and 100 years. (more…)

Skegness Standard: “Coastal erosion whips up interest in Skegness”

Representatives from the Environment Agency (EA) and East Lindsey District Council were on hand to explain how our coastline could be protected over the next 20, 50 and 100 years, and to find out what people think about the suggestions.

But they were keen to stop the scaremongering which has many people believing coastal communities will be abandoned to the sea.

Mark Robinson of the EA said: “This whole process is about trying to deal with people’s perceptions and changing them. We’re raising awareness with coastal plans of climate change and sea level rise. The message is Lincolnshire has very good coastal protection.” (more…)

Skegness Standard: “Find out how coastal communities will manage flood risk”

Sunday, 1pm – FIND out how the authorities plan to deal with future coastal erosion at the Embassy Centre, Grand Parade, Skegness, on April 2-3.

Authorities including East Lindsey District Council, Lincolnshire County Council, Natural England, and English Heritage are working on the Shoreline Management Plan for the coast between Gibraltar Point, Skegness, to Flamborough Head in Yorkshire.

The plan will look at the risks created by coastal erosion over the next 20, 50 and 100 years and the impact this will have on coastal communities. (more…)

LGC Plus: “East England councils fight sea”

seascapeFour councils are drawing up a new coastal erosion and flooding strategy across an 80-mile stretch of England’s coast in the face of a feared one-metre rise in sea levels over the next century.

Work is currently underway to prepare an updated shoreline management plan that will costs tens of millions for the coast between Flamborough Head in Yorkshire and Gibraltar Point in Lincolnshire, including the outer Humber Estuary. (more…)
