Hull Daily Mail: “Rescued from the brink: Families move away from coastal erosion danger”

FAMILIES once threatened by coastal erosion are looking forward to a more secure New Year after being helped to move away from the danger zone.

Government funding worth £1.2 million awarded in February has allowed people to apply for help towards relocation costs for the first time.

Since the Coastal Pathfinder grant was secured by East Riding Council, around 40 households, mainly in Aldbrough and Skipsea, have been supported under the scheme. (more…)

Hull Daily Mail: “Coastal erosion at Skipsea ‘worst it has ever been’”

CHALETS which have stood proudly on the east coast for 70 years have become the latest victims to erosion.

Artist Saffron Waghorn says 20ft (six metres) of the Skipsea coast has been lost since December – the worst she has seen in her 20 years living in the area.

Half a dozen chalets with asbestos issues and concrete foundations are currently being demolished because of their position on the crumbling coastline. (more…)
